本發明係有關無線通信系統。更特別是,本發明係有關無線通信系統中有利於系統間交接之方法及系統。
如通用行動電信服務(UMTS)系統之先前技術蜂巢型無線通信系統,係包含複數具有特定涵蓋區域之胞元。當無線傳送/接收單元(WTRU)跨越胞元邊界移動時,無線傳送/接收單元必須從一胞元交接至另一胞元。
各胞元傳播有利於通用行動電信服務系統內交接程序所需之資訊。此資訊通常包含鄰近胞元表列,其包含服務胞元附近之鄰近胞元表列。該鄰近胞元表列可使無線傳送/接收單元僅經由有限胞元數而非所有可能編碼來搜尋。結果,無線傳送/接收單元可加速胞元搜尋程序而更快速對新胞元執行交接。
同時,以IEEE802.11標準為基礎之無線區域網路(WLANs)已被發展且被廣泛使用。這些系統可期待其高資料速率傳輸支援。依據802.11標準之無線區域網路使用之一例係為公共空間中使用所謂"熱點"之存取點。具有802.11介面之無線傳送/接收單元可不需任何實體連接而連接至熱點。一旦無線傳送/接收單元(經由射頻介面被與熱點無線相關,則無線傳送/接收單元可以通常遠較被提供於通用行動電信服務系統者為快之資料速率經由熱點傳送及接收資料。
當熱點提供高品質,高資料速率連接性時,熱點之服務範圍通常被限制為相當短距離。因為802.11標準下之無線傳送/接收單元傳輸功率被限制為相當低功率位準,所以很難達成充分涵蓋大量人口區域。此外,由於802.11裝置之受限範圍,無線傳送/接收單元通常對新熱點執行固定搜尋程序。此為嚴峻處理負載,因此對無線傳送/接收單元電池係為固定消耗。缺乏通知熱點存在之機構下,無線傳送/接收單元應搜尋定期及連續被傳輸自熱點之信號。此產生處理功率及資源非必要之消耗。
因為無線傳送/接收單元可接收來自熱點之相當高速率服務而可維持通用行動電信服務系統中廣泛涵蓋區域之連接,所以預期提供被配置通信及交接於802.11標準下之通用行動電信服務系統及無線區域網路系統間之雙模無線傳送/接收單元。然而,目前並無從如通用行動電信服務之蜂巢型通信系統交接至如熱點之無線區域網路型通信系統之便捷方法。因此,預期提供有利於如通用行動電信服務及無線區域網路之兩無線通信系統之系統間交接之方法及系統。
藉由無線傳送/接收單元有利於系統間交接之方法係被揭示。無線傳送/接收單元可使用不同無線通信協定通信於多重無線通信系統中。第一無線通信系統提供第二無線通信系統至少一部份涵蓋區域內之熱點。第二無線通信系統中之胞元中之基地台可產生及傳送訊息來通知位於胞元附近之熱點存在給無線傳送/接收單元。無線傳送/接收單元接收該訊息並被通知胞元附近之熱點存在。
無線傳送/接收單元不需搜尋被傳送自熱點之信號而更快速及有效啟動交接程序。
在此,"無線傳輸/接收單元"名詞係包括但不受限於站、行動站、使用者設備、固定或行動用戶單元、呼叫器或任何可操作於無線環境中之任何其他類型裝置。
本發明使用不同無線通信協定有利於兩不同無線通信系統間之交接。無線通信系統可為未來發展無線通信系統所呈現之任何類型,包含但不限於通用行動電信服務,分碼多重存取2000(CDMA2000),全球行動電信系統(GSM),一般封包無線服務(GPRS),IEEE802.11系統及藍芽。
為了簡化,此後本發明將參考通用行動電信服務系統及提供通用行動電信服務系統涵蓋區域內之熱點之IEEE802.11無線區域網路通信系統作說明。然而,如上述,應注意本發明亦可公平地應用至通用行動電信服務系統或IEEE802.11無線區域網路通信系統外之任何無線存取系統。
第1圖為依據本發明之無線通信系統100方塊圖。系統100係包含操作於不同通信協定且具有重疊涵蓋區域之兩個或更多通信系統。第1圖描繪802.11標準下操作之通用行動電信服務系統110及熱點120。通用行動電信服務系統110具有較廣涵蓋區域,而熱點120具有通用行動電信服務系統110涵蓋區域內之有限涵蓋區域。通用行動電信服務系統110包含各服務特定涵蓋區域之複數胞元112。各胞元112係被基地台114服務,而熱點120被存取點122服務。
無線傳輸/接收單元130係被配置通信於通用行動電信服務系統110及熱點120中。無線傳輸/接收單元130固定或定期監視來自複數基地台114及存取點122之訊息。無線傳輸/接收單元130對被接收自胞元112及熱點120之訊息執行實際量側且可交接至另一胞元112或熱點120。
依據本發明,通用行動電信服務系統110之各基地台114可通知胞元112附近之如熱點120之任何熱點存在給無線傳送/接收單元130。各胞元之基地台114已留意位於各胞元112附近之熱點120之存在。基地台114獲得有關熱點120資訊之方式並非本發明重心。然而,例如基地台114可藉由偵測被傳輸自熱點120之信號或藉由接收來自通用行動電信服務系統110或無線區域網路系統之訊息來獲得該資訊。可替代是,基地台114可被人工配置來包含基地台114何時被設立或如新熱點何時被配置之該資訊。
通用行動電信服務系統110中,各胞元112中之基地台114可產生及傳播鄰近胞元表列來支援通用行動電信服務系統110中各胞元112間之有效交接。依據本發明,各胞元112亦較佳包含鄰近胞元表列中熱點120之額外資訊。可替代是,胞元112可針對此傳送獨立訊息。
無線傳輸/接收單元130可接收來自服務無線傳輸/接收單元130之胞元112之基地台114之鄰近胞元表列或獨立訊息,並被通知胞元112附近之熱點120存在。有關熱點120之資訊係包含但不限於熱點120之位置,頻帶,保全位準,或建立對熱點120之連接所需之任何其他資訊。因為無線傳輸/接收單元130可事先獲得對熱點120之連接資訊,所以無線傳輸/接收單元130可降低處理功率及放置熱點及設定特定熱點連接之參數通常所需之任何資源。
有關熱點120之連接係較佳從胞元112中之基地台114被傳播至所有無線傳輸/接收單元130。可替代是,各胞元112之基地台114可經由專用頻道或共用/共享頻道傳送鄰近胞元表列或獨立訊息僅至無線傳輸/接收單元130子組。
第2圖為依據本發明藉由通知熱點120存在給無線傳輸/接收單元130而有利於系統間交接之處理200流程圖。無線傳輸/接收單元130係為多模無線傳輸/接收單元,所以無線傳輸/接收單元130可接收來自通用行動電信服務系統110及無線區域網路系統(也就是熱點)120兩者之訊息。通用行動電信服務系統110中之胞元112中之基地台114可通知胞元112附近之熱點120存在給位於胞元112中之無線傳輸/接收單元130。有關熱點120之資訊係較佳被包含於鄰近胞元表列中。然而,該資訊可經由獨立訊息來傳送。
通用行動電信服務系統中之各基地台114可產生有效交接至另一胞元之鄰近胞元表列(步驟202)。鄰近胞元表列包含交接所需資訊,包含但不限於鄰近胞元之編碼組,主亂碼身份識別或鄰近胞元搜尋窗。各基地台114係經由傳播頻道傳播鄰近胞元表列至無線傳輸/接收單元130。
各基地台114係較佳包含鄰近胞元表列中之熱點120附近相關資訊,或產生獨立訊息(步驟202)及傳送鄰近胞元表列或訊息至位於各胞元112中之無線傳輸/接收單元130(步驟204)。熱點120相關資訊係包含但不限於熱點位置,頻帶,保全位準,或建立對熱點之連接所需之任何其他資訊。
熱點120相關資訊係較佳被傳播。然而,基地台可傳送熱點120相關資訊僅至無線傳輸/接收單元130而非傳播它。該資訊可經由專用頻道或共用/共享頻道來傳送。
無線傳輸/接收單元130接收鄰近胞元表列或獨立訊息,且被通知熱點120之存在(步驟206)。無線傳輸/接收單元130可不需搜尋被傳送自熱點130之信號而更快速及有效啟動交接程序。
當無線傳輸/接收單元130接收鄰近胞元表列或獨立訊息時,無線傳輸/接收單元130可處於閒置模式或主動模式。當無線傳輸/接收單元130處於閒置模式時,無線傳輸/接收單元130可使用熱點120相關資訊對熱點120交接,而當無線傳輸/接收單元130處於主動模式時,無線傳輸/接收單元130可使用該資訊經由熱點120來啟動新呼叫。
建立對熱點120之連接之前,無線傳輸/接收單元130係對被傳送自鄰近胞元表列中之基地台114及熱點120之訊息執行實際量測(步驟208)。該實際量測可為量測及比較胞元112及熱點120間之信號品質有關之任何量測。此可包含但不限於信號干擾比(SIR)或被接收信號強度指標(RSSI)。
無線傳輸/接收單元130決定被傳送自熱點120之訊息量測是否滿足預定準則(步驟210)。若該量測滿足該準則,則無線傳輸/接收單元130啟動對熱點120之交接程序或經由熱點120啟動新呼叫(步驟212)。若量測不滿足預定準則,則無線傳輸/接收單元130並不嘗試建立對熱點120之連接(步驟214)。
雖然本發明特徵及元件藉由特定組合中之較佳實施例做說明,但各特徵或元件均可無較佳實施例之其他特徵及元件下被單獨使用或具有或無本發明其他特徵及元件之各種組合中。

权利要求:
Claims (14)
[1] 在一無線傳送/接收單元(WTRU)中實施的裝置,該裝置包括:接收一網路資訊訊息,該網路資訊訊息包含與複數個無線存取網路有關的一資訊,該資訊包含可用於交接的一無線存取網路列表,其中複數個無線存取網路包含基於一第一無線存取技術的一第一無線存取網路和基於一第二無線存取技術的一第二無線存取網路,其中該第一無線存取技術和該第二無線存取技術是不同的;該WTRU基於該網路資訊訊息以來自該複數個無線存取網路的一網路來啟動一交接程序;以及該WTRU執行該交接程序。
[2] 如申請專利範圍第1項所述的方法,其中來自該複數個無線存取網路的該網路是一無線區域網路(WLAN)。
[3] 如申請專利範圍第1項所述的方法,其中來自該複數無線存取網路的該網路是一WiMax網路。
[4] 如申請專利範圍第1項所述的方法,其中該複數個無線存取網路由在該WTRU的無線存取範圍中的多個無線存取網路所組成。

[8] 一種無線傳送/接收單元(WTRU),包括:被配置以接收一網路資訊訊息的電路,其中該網路資訊訊息包含與複數個無線存取網路有關的一資訊,該資訊包含可用於交接的一無線存取網路列表,其中該複數個無線存取網路包含基於一第一無線存取技術的一第一無線存取網路和基於一第二無線存取技術的一第二無線存取網路,其中該第一無線存取技術和該第二無線存取技術是不同的;被配置以基於該網路資訊訊息以來自該複數個無線存取網路的一網路來啟動一交接程序的電路;以及被配置以執行該交接程序的電路。
[9] 如申請專利範圍第8項所述的無線傳送/接收單元(WTRU),其中來自該複數個無線存取網路的該網路是一無線區域網路(WLAN)。
[10] 如申請專利範圍第8項所述的無線傳送/接收單元(WTRU),其中來自該複數個無線存取網路的該網路是一WiMax網路。
[11] 如申請專利範圍第8項所述的無線傳送/接收單元(WTRU),其中該複數個無線存取網路由在該WTRU的無線存取範圍內的多個無線存取網路所組成。
